Former Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the hate-filled Islamophobic crime of burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden.

The former premier and PTI Chairman took twitter on Friday to express his opinion.

He wrote, “Strongly condemn the hate-filled Islamophobic crime of burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden – a loathsome act sanctioned by the Swedish police.”

“Such a hate-filled act serves no purpose beyond causing anger and deep hurt to Muslims across the world.”

He further said, “Swedish govt should recall the UNGA Resolution (see below) and also realise that freedom of speech in no way allows absolute freedom simply to cause hurt to others.”

“No freedom for one individual is absolute – as made clear also in the EU Human Rights Convention including in Article 9.”

Earlier, Pakistan foreign office also vehemently denounced the “despicable act” of a copy of the Holy Quran being publicly burned in Sweden on the occasion of Eid ul Adha in another instance of the holy book being desecrated.

A man tore apart and set fire to a copy of the Holy Quran outside Stockholm’s main mosque on Wednesday, according to Reuters. Police eventually charged the individual with inciting hatred against a national or ethnic group.
