Imran Khan’s ‘American conspiracy’ allegations disturbing: US State Dept official

A US State Department Office of Pakistan Affairs Director Neil Hop has said that allegations put forth by former prime minister Imran Khan regarding an American conspiracy to overthrow him were “very disturbing”.

The official made these comments while addressing an event with Pakistani physicians in New Jersey. Hop emphasized the importance of US-Pakistan relations and said that the US had to work with Pakistan to deal with global affairs.

Hop said that for the purpose of the largest ever health talks with Pakistan, a Pakistani delegation would visit Washington on July 25.

Responding to a question about US interference in Pakistani politics, Hop said that they were very disturbing and there was “absolutely no truth” to them. He added that US had no interests in the domestic politics of Pakistan, but it supported a strong democratic setup.

Pakistani Ambassador Masood Khan, during his address, said that the relations between the two countries were stable and were in a position to get better. In a message to American investors, he said that Pakistan had great opportunities owing to its large and vibrant middle class.
