Imran wants PTI to speed up election campaign

PDM hints at delay in general elections if economy not recovered

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday urged his party members to speed up the electoral campaign, which he refers to as “Election karao, mulk bachao” campaign. The deposed premier prepared a strategy to react to the acceptance of the PTI lawmakers’ resignation in the National Assembly. Khan said once the PTI will complete the process of resignations, he will take to the streets to give tough time to the coalition government. Khan also directed his stalwarts to prepare a schedule the public gatherings. Sources privy to the development said the PTI will underscore the issues of “regime change and the government’s economic policies” in its election campaign. “To take the country out of the quagmire and economic woes, Khan will give his supporters a roadmap.” After the NA speaker accepted the resignations of 70 PTI lawmakers, Khan handed over the task to the party leaders of getting the resignations of the rest of the PTI lawmakers accepted under the supervision of former NA speaker Asad Qaiser. Separately, Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) spokesperson Hafiz Hamdullah Sunday said that the next general elections will be postponed if the country’s economy fails to recover.  Berating the Imran Khan-led government, Hamdullah said that the PTI left the power by leaving the country financially tied. “PTI was imposed by force,” he added.  Pakistan is making efforts to boost its foreign exchange reserves – held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) – which currently stand at $4.601 billion, just enough to pay for just four weeks of imports.
