In the fresh cold wave

We see terrible weather events that are unimaginable because of the way the planet is gripped by climate change. Until a few decades ago, climate change was not a buzzword. Now, Asia, especially South Asia, has been the region most severely impacted by climate change, as proven by the recent torrential downpours and catastrophic floods that enveloped almost all of Pakistan. Last year in March, the country faced a heat wave, which destroyed the wheat crop. After having back-to-back below-average monsoons for straight four years, the country saw devastating rainfall last year.

Now, the peak of winter has already arrived, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning for rain and snow until Friday and forecast the entry of western winds into nortnorthern Balochistane deputy commissioners of the 13 districts in the province of Balochistan received a letter from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of the province warning that citizens should avoid needless travel in hilly locations as snowfall may interrupt regular vehicular traffic. During the period of January 14 to 17, the nighttime temperatures may dip into the single digits due to rain and precipitation. A few days ago, there were reports claiming that Pakistan’s 100-year history may record its coldest January nights ever, with snow possible both during the day and at night. In Punjab, the worst cold wave in recorded history is predicted. People should wear heavy wool clothing, avoid travelling to northern regions, and avoid leaving their houses unnecessarily during this period. In particular, children and the elderly who are in great need, shouldn’t leave the house. We must be prepared and diligent in every manner to deal with the weather extremes because they will likely not change, but they may become more intense.
