In a major development in the investigation into the Karachi University suicide attack, law enforcement agencies have raided the house of the alleged suicide bomber’s father in Scheme 33, Karachi.

Four people, including three Chinese nationals, were killed while four others were injured in a suicide attack outside the Confucius Institute on Tuesday.

Laptops, documents and other evidences were taken into custody during the raid.

Investigators also raided the apartment of the alleged suicide bomber in Gulistan-e-Johar block 13, sealing it afterwards. They revealed that the apartment was rented and that the bomber had been living there for the previous three years.

The bombing was carried out by a burqa-clad woman who belonged to an educated background and was pursuing an MPhil. The responsibility for the blast was claimed by the Majeed Brigade of the Baloch Liberation Army.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered the interior secretary to develop apparatus to “stop what is happening with Baloch students”. It added that the interior secretary must ensure that their ethnic profiling was ended.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah issued the directives during a hearing on a petition filed by rights activist and lawyer Imaan Zainab Hazir against harassment of Baloch students.
