Iran has warned France of consequences after insulting cartoons of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei were published in the Charlie Hedbo magazine.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, “The insulting and indecent act of a French publication in publishing cartoons against the religious and political authority will not go without an effective and decisive response.”

He further added that Iran won’t permit the French government to overstep its authority. They have unquestionably made the incorrect decision.

The weekly magazine released several cartoons making fun of Iran’s top religious and political figures on the same day.

The publication said that the caricatures were a part of a contest that it had held last month in favour of the protests sparked by Mahsa Amini’s death while in detention on September 16.
