Is Azaan Sami Khan taking a risk with his upcoming music video?

Screengrab from 'Ik Lamha' official teaser

Azaan Sami Khan’s next song, the complete title of which is ‘Ik Lamha – Karachi 1964’ is set to release on December 25, and promises a trip down memory lane, especially for all those people who have witnessed the city of lights in all its glory.

It’s not an unknown fact that Pakistan saw its fair share of liberalism back in Ayub Khan and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s eras. Late-night parties were things not executed in privacy, but in a manner bold to the extent that circulars would be distributed for people to have an idea of fun-filled get-togethers they could attend. Gender-related stereotypes too, were not as rigid as they are now.

Singer and composer Azaan Sami Khan, who is also currently acting as a performer in ‘Ishq-e-Laa’ is releasing his song on December 25, and the song endeavours to take the public to the era just mentioned above; the era before Islamization emerged on the political scenario and a lot of activities were banned. The teaser of Khan’s music video boldly depicts a glimmering neon sign welcoming people to relish a party the kind which would be thrown back in the 60s, with cheerleaders dressed in gaudy clothing also making it to the event to make it look all the more pompous.

It is yet to be seen how Azaan Sami Khan’s music video titled ‘Ik Lamha – Karachi 1964’ will be received, for religious extremism still does not seem to have abated from the country. Not only that, but a backlash from liberals can also be expected, considering woman objectification in the video in the name of a party having a woman seducing the on-lookers with her seductive dance movements.
