Islamabad court sends Hassaan Niazi on judicial remand

A local court in Islamabad on Wednesday sent former prime minister Imran Khan’s nephew Hassaan Niazi to jail on judicial remand.
Hassaan Niazi was produced in the court of Duty Magistrate Murid Abbas in the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on completion of two-day physical remand in the case of interference in the government, his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry also appeared in the court.
The investigating officer requested for more physical remand of Hassaan Niazi, saying that the co-accused has been found but the pistol and the vehicle have to be recovered.
Hassaan Niazi’s lawyer initially read out the FIR copy. He said that it has been more than 72 hours and they still have to recover the pistol.
Referring to the Siddique Jan case, Faisal Chaudhry said that the terrorism case was filed on Siddique Jan and one day’s remand was given to the police.
After the completion of Faisal Chaudhry’s arguments, Hassaan Niazi’s second lawyer Ali Bukhari started the arguments and requested to discharge Hassaan Niazi from the case.
He said that it is written in the police report that it was picked up at 11 am and arrested at 4 pm, I say that the arrest itself was illegal.
After hearing the arguments of the parties, the court had reserved the verdict on the request for five more days physical remand.
Later, the court rejected the police’s request for physical remand of Hassaan Niazi and sent him to jail on judicial remand.
It may be recalled that Hassaan Khan Niazi was arrested on January 20 and a case was registered against him for interfering in the government matters and showing weapons.
According to the text of the FIR, the police tried to stop the vehicle but the driver drove the car on the policemen, Hassaan Niazi threatened to kill, another person with Hassaan Niazi took out a weapon and during resistance Hassaan Niazi was arrested by the police.
