ISPR rejects Indian army chief’s claim of negotiating ceasefire from ‘position of strength’

Major General Iftikhar said no one should misinterpret agreement as their strength or other side’s weakness

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar has categorically rejected the Indian army chief’s statement wherein he claimed that the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) was in place because they negotiated it from a “position of strength”.

The military spokesperson on Friday said that it was decided only because of Pakistan’s concerns for the Kashmiris who have been living on both sides of the Line of Control.

The statement issued by the DG ISPR’s Twitter account came in reply to the assertions by Indian’s top military officials who claimed credit for the ceasefire.

Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukhand Narvane said on Thursday that the ceasefire continued to be maintained because they [Indians] “negotiated from a position of strength”.

The Pakistani military spokesperson rejected the claims as “misleading” and said no side should misinterpret the agreement in place as their strength or the other side’s weakness.

The ceasefire between the two arch-rivals was agreed upon on February 25, 2021 between the director-generals of military operations of both countries.

The ISPR said in the statement that the two DG’s made hotline contact in order to achieve “sustainable peace”. It added that the two sides agreed to deal with the core issues and concerns that posed a threat to peace.
