Israeli forces demolished several homes in the southern Lebanese town of Aitaroun on Monday and carried out an explosion in the nearby town of Houla, despite a ceasefire and a recently signed framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that Israeli troops destroyed multiple houses in Aitaroun. The agency also said an overnight explosion occurred in Houla, located in the Marjayoun district, but did not specify what was targeted.
The incidents come even though Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a US-backed framework agreement on June 26 that outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, starting with two pilot zones.
According to official Lebanese figures, Israeli military operations since March 2 have killed more than 4,300 people and injured over 12,000.
Israeli forces also remain stationed in parts of southern Lebanon, including areas occupied for decades and territories captured during the 2023–2024 conflict. During the latest offensive, troops advanced more than 10 kilometres into Lebanese territory.
