An anti-terrorism court on Monday handed over four suspects to the police who were allegedly involved in the killing of journalist Hasnain Shah.
Police produced four suspects before the court and sought their 14-day physical remand, pleading to the court that they had to recover the murder weapon and other things from their possession.
The court accepted the plea and handed over the suspects to them on a 14-day physical remand, with directions to submit a report on the next date of hearing. Three suspects including two shooters were still at large.
On January 29, Lahore police said that it was personal enmity that took Shah’s life.
Addressing a press conference, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Fayyaz Ahmed Dev deemed the murder a result of the journalist’s personal enmity with the suspects.
“In a very short time, we reached the suspects and arrested four of them,” said CCPO Dev, assuring the journalists that the police were taking this case as their own and would arrest the remaining three suspects soon.
On January 24, two shooters riding a bike killed Shah on the traffic signal at Davis road. He was on his way to the press club from his office when the killers were getting information from their accomplices about his whereabouts. They came from the opposite side of the road where Shah’s car was located near the signal and started indiscriminate firing in broad-day light. The journalist died on the spot.
