Judge Musarrat Hilali takes oath as first woman CJ of PHC

Judge Musarrat Hilali took her oath as interim chief justice of the Peshawar High Court on Saturday to become the first woman to hold the position in KP.

Hilali received the oath from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali during a ceremony conducted at the PHC. Several judges, Pakistan’s attorney general, Usman Mansoor Awan, and a big number of attorneys were present on the occasion.

President Dr. Arif Alvi on Wednesday gave his approval for Judge Musarrat Hilali to be named Chief Justice.

She is Pakistan’s second female judge to hold the position of chief justice of a high court, following Justice Tahira Safdar, the CJ of the Balochistan High Court (BHC).

She was born in Peshawar on August 8, 1961, graduated from Khyber Law College of Peshawar University with a law degree, and began practicing law as an advocate in district courts in 1983 and the high court in 1988.
