Judge threatening case: Imran’s non-bailable arrest warrant changed to bailable

The non-bailable arrest warrant for PTI Chairman Imran Khan in a case involving alleged threats to a judge was changed into a bailable warrant on Friday by an Islamabad district and sessions court.

As it made its decision today, the court rejected the former premier’s request to have the aforementioned arrest warrant suspended indefinitely.

Imran’s arrest warrants were issued on March 13 by Senior Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim, who was also hearing a case against the former premier for using threatening language towards ADSJ Zeba Chaudhry and Islamabad police officers.

ADSJ Faizan Haider Gilani requested Imran’s attorney to provide security papers in court on March 14 and postponed the arrest warrants until March 16 after PTI contested the warrants in the district court.

Rizwan Abbasi, the prosecutor, and Gohar Ali, Imran’s attorney, appeared in ADSJ Gilani’s court today.

As the PTI leader was scheduled to attend a hearing in the Toshakhana case at the Islamabad Katcheri, where this hearing was taking place, Imran’s attorney, Advocate Gohar Ali, requested that the judge summon the PTI leader to court on March 30.

You can continue to suspend the arrest warrant, Ali said. “However, I can go to the civil court and ask that the arrest date be changed from March 29 to March 30.”

ADSJ Gilani said, “What you’re saying is strange. While the warrant’s order for arrest calls for March 29, you are asking March 30.

On August 20, 2022, the PTI chairman denounced the police and the judiciary for allegedly torturing Shahbaz Gill while he was being held in custody and declared that his party will file lawsuits against the IGP at the time, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the DIG, and Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.

Imran was first charged with offences under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and other articles of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has filed a complaint against him for contempt of court.

After Imran submitted an apology in a contempt case a month later, IHC dropped the terrorist accusations against him and also granted him a pardon.

However, the Sessions court is now hearing a similar case that was brought after the registration of a first information report (FIR) against him for threatening the judge.
