JUI-F, PML-N vow to continue joint struggle to dethrone PTI

Shehbaz tells PM Imran Khan to resign instead of playing with future of nation

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday vowed to continue struggle along with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to overthrow the incumbent government.

Fazl, , who is also the chief of the Pakistan Democratic Movement, thanked PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif for congratulating him over JUI-F’s success against the ruling party in the recent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government elections.

Fazl, in a tweet, said the JUI-F and the PML-N would continue to struggle for the complete restoration of democracy, provision of right to vote to the people, and overthrowing the incumbent government.

The remarks came in reaction to Nawaz Sharif’s tweet where he congratulated Fazl for his party’s success in the first phase of the LG polls.

The ruling party’s defeat was made obvious in the first phase of LG polls in KP, with opposition party JUI-F emerging victorious.

A major setback for the rulers was JUI-F mayoral candidate’s win in Peshawar, according to unofficial and unverified results.

On top of it, Tehreek Ulema-e-Islam also defeated the ruling party in the tehsil council elections.

Meanwhile, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said that record trade deficit of more than $5 billion this month was an alarming sign of economic catastrophe.

In a statement, Shehbaz said the record increase in trade deficit was a clear indication of imbalance in the country’s imports and exports. He said that the latest statistics show that the inflow of dollars in the country had decreased. The opposition leader said the economy was in the reverse gear, while the industry, trade, commerce and employment were all in deplorable state. He said it was a global practice that amid high inflation GST was reduced, but in Pakistan the world had turned upside down.

The PML-N president said that this move by the government would have dire consequences, as it also exposes the fact that the government had not been able to increase the tax base. He said that the GST was already high, so the imposition of 17 per cent tax on all essential commodities would further increase inflation. He said that the finance advisers were sometimes making contradictory statements on the rise and fall of inflation. Sometimes it is said that Pakistan was the cheapest country and sometimes global circumstances were blamed for the worsening situation. He said that instead of imposing a mini-budget and playing with the future of the nation, the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan should resign.

On the other hand, PML-N leader Captain (r) Mohammad Safdar said that his with PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, Junaid Safdar, will follow in the family’s footsteps and become a politician. He made the remark while talking to reporters outside the Islamabad High Court.

When asked about the possibility of Junaid entering politics, he said, “This is the writing on the wall that he will go into politics. A lawyer’s son becomes a lawyer, a doctor’s son becomes a doctor, a pir’s (spiritual leader) son becomes his successor and he (Junaid) is from a family of politicians.”

He said Junaid would “serve [the slogan of] ‘vote to izzat do’ (give respect to vote) and the constitution of Pakistan”. “That is why he is becoming a barrister,” he continued.
