Justice Isa asks govt to stop giving cars to judges, officers

Also questions negotiations with terrorists

Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faiz Isa on Saturday questioned negotiations with terrorists “who attack girls’ schools in Swat”.

Addressing the International Judicial Conference in Islamabad, Justice Isa said: “Who gave the permission to negotiate with terrorists? On whose request are we negotiating with these terrorists? Who offered to negotiate with them?”

He said that the girls’ school that was attacked by terrorists in Swat remained closed for five years, adding that several educational institutions were blown up during that time.

Justice Isa said that failure to follow the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the root cause of our problems.

He said that the federal and provincial governments should stop giving cars to judges, bureaucrats and military officers. “The poor people are contributing their share to the government treasury, but they walk on foot or ride a bicycle… the saved amount should be used to construct bike paths, footpaths and public transport.”

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Saturday said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan hosted its 9th International Judicial Conference (JC) with the intention of addressing past issues and finding innovative ways to secure a better future for Pakistan.

He said the vision for a prosperous and progressive Pakistan is based on the rule of law and the supremacy of the constitution.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the conference, the chief justice stated that it is only through the collective resolution of the stakeholders in the justice sector that Pakistan can become a nation in which the rule of law, democracy and respect for the constitution will thrive.

He said the rule of law can be achieved if courts are made equally accessible to the people of Pakistan irrespective of their gender, religion, race or economic status.
