Justice Qazi Faiz Esa raises concerns over appointment of new judges in LHC and SHC

Postponing JCP meetings till vacations will help members enquire about proposed appointments

Justice Qazi Faiz Esa has raised objections on the two Judicial Commission[s] of Pakistan (JCP) meetings for appointment of new judges to the Lahore and Sindh High Courts called by Supreme Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial in his absence.

According to media reports, Justice Esa in a social media message to Justice Bandial and the council members, has raised concerns about not being informed about any such meetings, criticizing that the appointment of a cook was done more carefully than appointment of new judges.

He said that he objected to the way in which secretary of the JCP or the chief justice did not inform him of the meetings, claiming that his private secretary had taken pictures of letters sent by the JCP secretary, along with three large boxes of documents regarding the new nominees’ work.

He claimed that he did not even receive a reply after his message that raised questions regarding weakening or destruction of the institutions.

The judge also demanded to postpone the CJP meetings till the end of SC vacations adding that we should not be playing with people’s destiny as they deserved better. He further said that the postponement would be helpful to JCP members in enquiring the proposed appointments.

Justice Qazi Faiz Esa also apologized for sending the message on social media, saying that being present in Spain, he had no other medium to communicate.
