KARACHI: Justice (retired) Maqbool Baqir Siddiqui has unanimously been chosen for the coveted role of caretaker chief minister of Sindh. The announcement in this regard was made by Abdul Rasheed Channa, the spokesperson of CM House Karachi, through a press release. It stated that the Opposition Leader in the dissolved Sindh Assembly, Rana Ansar, was convinced by outgoing CM Sindh, Mr. Shah, to second the name proposed by his party leadership.

After intense consultations with their respective top leadership, both leaders announced the name of Justice (retired) Baqir to oversee provincial affairs until the formation of a new government. The name of Justice Baqir was put forth by the top PPP leaders, reportedly on the recommendations of some powerful quarters. The new caretaker chief minister, a retired justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, is expected to take the oath of office on Tuesday at the Governor House. Governor Sindh, Mohammad Kamran Tessori, will administer the oath during the ceremony. It is unclear how many cabinet members will also take the oath alongside him. Chief Secretary Sindh, Dr. Mohammad Suhail Rajput, is expected to issue the notification shortly in this regard.
