MUZAFFARABAD: A rally was held in Muzaffarabad to mark the 10th death anniversary of Burhan Wani, attracting leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government representatives, refugees from Indian-administered Kashmir, civil society members and a large number of young participants.
The procession started from Burhan Muzaffar Wani Chowk and concluded at Alamdar Chowk. Participants carried Pakistani and AJK flags while raising slogans expressing support for Kashmir and condemning Indian policies in the disputed region.
Addressing the gathering, speakers described July 8 as a “Day of Resistance” and said Wani remained an influential figure for many Kashmiris. They stated that his death in 2016 intensified unrest in the region and drew renewed international attention to the Kashmir dispute.
AJK Prime Minister’s spokesperson Shaukat Javed Mir said people in Indian-administered Kashmir continued to seek the right to self-determination. He also criticized India over alleged human rights violations, citing figures on casualties, detentions and the impact of the conflict on local families.
The event concluded with participants reaffirming support for the Kashmiri cause and calling for continued international attention to the situation in the region.
