KL Rahul’s absence from the first two games of the Asia Cup 2023 will be a setback for the Indian cricket team as he struggles to heal from a minor fitness issue.
The right-handed hitter wouldn’t be eligible for the initial games against Pakistan and Nepal, head coach Rahul Dravid announced during a news conference.
The 31-year-old opening hitter was chosen for the Asia Cup after making a full recovery from a thigh injury that kept him out of action since May.
While receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, he did, however, run into a different fitness problem unrelated to his prior ailment.
It is anticipated that Ishan Kishan will keep the wicket keeping duty during the group-stage matches, which are set for September 2 and 4 in Sri Lanka.
According to additional reports, Sanju Samson, who will travel with the team as a reserve player for the premier tournament, offers India another option for wicket-keeping. “KL Rahul has had a wonderful week with us, playing well and improving significantly,” but Dravid stated he won’t be available for the first half of the Kandy leg of the tour.
