Korean actor dies in Halloween celebrations in Seoul

A crowd surge event in Itaewon Seoul during Halloween celebrations claimed the life of South Korean artist Lee Jihan on October 29.

The horrific incident occurred on Saturday when a massive group of people crowded a small street for Halloween festivities in which about 153 people died and more than 133 were wounded.

The star appeared on the popular boy band competition series ‘Produce 101’ in 2017 and starred in the Korean drama ‘Today Was Another Namhyun Day’ in 2019.

Born on August 3 1998, Lee Jihan made his first big move in the Korean entertainment industry by competing in the second season of the Korean singing competition Produce 101.

The Korean government had announced that Lee Jihan was one of at least 153 dead in Seoul’s crowd crush incident. The government had also announced a period of national mourning to last until November 5.

Park Heeseok, Kim Do-hyun and Cho Jin Hyung, former contestants at Produce 101 also paid tribute. They wrote in a joint statement, “Ji Han has left this world and gone to a comfortable place. We ask that you say goodbye to him on his final path.”
