KP Cabinet approves new health policy

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Cabinet has approved a new provincial health policy along with key amendments aimed at improving road vehicle registration and workplace safety across the province.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur chaired the cabinet meeting, where members reviewed and approved several major policy initiatives designed to strengthen public services and governance.

The cabinet endorsed the province’s new health policy, which focuses on expanding access to quality healthcare, ensuring sustainable financing, and modernizing the health sector through digital technologies. The policy also emphasizes evidence-based decision-making, stronger partnerships, and the development of a skilled healthcare workforce to deliver more efficient and patient-centered medical services.

As part of the reforms, the provincial government plans to establish new Intensive Care Units (ICUs), Cardiac Care Units (CCUs), trauma centers, and burn treatment facilities to improve secondary and specialized healthcare services. Authorities will also outsource underperforming health facilities to improve service delivery and operational efficiency. In addition, the government will introduce geriatric medicine to address the growing healthcare needs of elderly citizens.

The cabinet also approved amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Occupational Safety and Health Rules to strengthen workplace safety standards. It further endorsed changes to the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance to make the system for issuing personalized vehicle registration numbers more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly.

In another decision, the cabinet authorized the provincial Wildlife Department to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Crane Foundation. The partnership aims to strengthen wildlife conservation efforts, promote biodiversity protection, and support initiatives for the preservation of migratory cranes and their habitats in the province.
