Several local singers from Lahore were contacted to gauge their awareness, and it was found that they were completely devoted to their art, but were unaware of the designated day to celebrate their craft on a global scale.
World Music Day, also known as Fête de la Musique, is an annual event celebrated in various countries on June 21st. It is a day dedicated to promoting the importance of music and its cultural and social impact. The day originated in France in 1982 and has since spread to over 120 countries, including Pakistan.
The fact that many local singers and musicians in Lahore were unaware of World Music Day raises questions about the level of awareness and promotion of such international observances within the local music community. While these artists remain deeply connected to their craft and are passionate about their music, the lack of information about global celebrations of their art form is concerning.
International observances like World Music Day serve as platforms to highlight the significance of music in society, encourage artistic expression, and foster cultural exchange.
