Lahore administration issues new timings for shops, bakeries in Ramadan

Restaurants, diners permitted until 6 am; bakeries to function till 1 am

The new hours for restaurants and bakeries during the holy month of Ramadan, which were altered last year due to the worsening pollution situation, were announced by the district administration of Lahore on Friday.

Lahore is one of the cities most impacted by smog, thus the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the early closing of shops and eateries last December.

The orders continued to be in effect up until this point, with some revisions issued on January 20 and March 30.

The timings have since been changed such that restaurants and diners are now permitted to operate from iftar until 6 am the following morning, while bakeries are now permitted to function from their opening time until 1 am.

According to a notice issued by Lahore District Commissioner Rafia Haider, Dedicated medical stores and pharmacies (to the extent of medicines), hospitals, laboratories, fuel pumps, CNG stations, milk shops, tandoors, and puncture shops shall remain spared from the timing restrictions.

As per the announcement, the previous scheduling will resume following Ramadan and Eid.

It also noted that any company found to violate the injunction would be dealt with according to the LHC’s instructions.
