LCWU hosts three-day International Conference on SDG

A three-day International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals at Lahore College for Women University began on Tuesday with the discussion on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

It is the first conference of its kind organized by the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization and Directorate of Research covering a wide range of interrelated goals, including poverty eradication and economic growth, social inclusion, environmental sustainability and peace for all people by 2030.

The conference was jointly organized by Lahore College for Women University in collaboration with the Pakistan Science Foundation, the SDGs Section of the Ministry of Planning and Development and Special Initiatives, the SDGs Support Unit, Government of Punjab and Qasim Ali Shah Foundation.

The conference aims to provide a platform for the academic community to get exposed to international research on the SDGs and highlight the various ways in which academics can help in achieving SDGs.

Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza Vice-Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University appreciated the efforts of ORIC and director research on the successful execution of the first SDG conference.

While addressing the occasion, Dr. Bushra Mirza emphasized that this conference was a big opportunity for scholars to find new directions in their future research with a special focus on solving problems relating to SDGs. While mentioning the commitment of Pakistan to Sustainable Development Goals, she reiterated that without understanding the gender perspective, striving for achieving SDGs might become difficult.

Zaigham Mehmood Rizvi, Chairman of Naya Pakistan Task Force, while addressing the audience talked about government initiatives to target various SDGs challenges faced by Pakistan.

Art Exhibition in NHQ Art Gallery showcasing art projects of IVAD faculty and the students was inaugurated by Mudassir Riaz Malik, director-general of Social Welfare Punjab. The poster foyer was inaugurated by chief guest, Prof. Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari and Prof. Dr. Qammer Abbasi, University of Glasgow.

At this conference various national and international researchers, scholars and academicians will be presenting their papers and posters.

The conference is chaired by Dr. Aqsa Shabbir, director ORIC and Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam, director Research. Dr. Muhammad Afzal, dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, LCWU, Qasim Ali Shah, Prof. Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari also attended the conference.
