LeT terrorist and Mumbai attacks mastermind Sajid Mir serving sentence for terror financing

Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks Sajid Majeed Mir has been arrested and jailed in a terror financing case as Pakistan is in the final stages of being removed from Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) grey list.

A local newspaper report stated that Mir was sentenced to 15 and a half years in jail after being convicted in a terror-financing case. He was also fined Rs420,000 and is currently in Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore.

Pakistani authorities had claimed that Mir had died, but western countries had demanded proof. The issue became a point of concern during FATF’s assessment of Pakistan.

According to media reports, the arrest has been made to satisfy the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) over implementation of terror financing laws in Pakistan and hence getting the country off the grey list.

Sajid Mir had allegedly planned the Mumbai attacks with the help of an American terrorist David Headley. He has been linked with LeT and Al-Qaeda.

Sajid became visible on the radar when he attempted a failed purchase of military equipment from the United States through his Virginia-based accomplices.

Mir was also convicted by an Australian court in June 2006 for planning terrorist attacks in Australia.
