The Lahore High Court (LHC) in a plea allowed protective bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi till May 15 in a case registered against him in Gujrat.

LHC had earlier refused the plea of former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s plea to stop police from arresting him.

Former chief minister’s other son Rasikh Elahi went to the LHC and pleaded with the court to prevent the police and anti-corruption agency from detaining his father till the expiration of his protective bail.

Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar of the LHC instructed the director general of the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and the chief of the Punjab police to provide a thorough report on the late-night raid at today’s hearing.

The judge, however, turned down the petition of stopping police from arresting him.

The police had initiated an operation to apprehend Elahi on Friday night. It lasted for over eight hours without success. Police officers were “attacked with stones, batons, and petrol” during the operation, according to Punjab police, who later charged him with multiple offences, including terrorism.
