Mahsa Amini: 12th night of protests in Iran

Tuesday marked the 12th night of protests in Iran in response to the brutal death of Mahsa Amini. In the crackdown, nearly 70 women were arrested, including the daughter of ex-President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

Faezeh Hashemi daughter of Akbar Hashemi was accused of spreading propaganda against the state and using social media to commit blasphemy, according to Tasnim news agency.

According to Iran’s local news report, “Between Monday and Friday, more than 70 women have been arrested in Iran’s Kurdistan. At least four of them are under the age of 18.”

Whereas, an Iranian lawmaker Mahmoud Nabavian tagged women who removed their mandatory headscarves to protest the death of Mahsa Amini, as “rioters” who are “out to prostitute themselves”, as per a Deutsche Welle report.

Nabavian compared taking off the hijab, or headscarves, to being publicly naked.
Iranian state media is also branding the protesters as “hypocrites, rioters and thugs.”

Mahsa Amini, a 22 years old Kurdish lady died on 16 September after being detained by morality police for allegedly breaking strict hijab rules. Dozens have been killed since protests erupted in response to the death of Mahsa Amini. Despite fears of an internet blackout, people continue to protest.
