Main accused in Qandeel Baloch murder case acquitted

Lahore High Court acquits Wasim after receiving consent from Qandeel's mother

The main accused in the Qandeel Baloch murder case Wasim, who is also her brother, has been acquitted by the court.

A Lahore High court bench acquitted the accused after receiving submission of consent from his mother. In September 2019, the court sentenced Qandeel’s brother to life imprisonment for killing the model and actress in the name of “honour” in 2016.

Model Court Judge Imran Shafi delivered the reserved judgment after hearing the arguments of the parties, witnesses’ statements, and after the conclusion of cross-examination.

Police said that Wasim was enraged after Qandeel’s photos and videos went viral online. He killed Qandeel afterwards and then escaped.

Wasim had confessed to the crime but denied it later when the formal charge was filed in the court. The court rejected the plea of Qandeel’s parents to pardon their son.
