Man booked for killing stepson

Ghulam Abbas smacked the child in a wall for urinating in bed

Police on Friday arrested a man for killing his step-son for urinating on his bed in Raiwind area of the provincial capital. The suspect, identified as Ghulam Abbas, and his wife, Sumaira, have both been booked for the killing.

Police arrested the suspect who was hiding in a local factory and traced his wife – the mother of the deceased child. “An unknown caller informed us about the incident and the perpetrators,” SP Investigation (Sadar) Zain Asim said while talking to Minute Mirror on Friday.

“This is a horrific incident. A toddler was thrashed to death,” said the SP, pointing out that the state took action and lodged an FIR against the suspects for taking the life of an innocent child. According to the police, the man killed his step-son by thrashing him to the wall for urinating on the bed. The mother of the child was also present there and remained mum. After killing the innocent child, the couple hid somewhere.

The investigators said that the incident took place a few days ago. They said the child was seriously injured after he was thrown to the wall. After the incident, neighbors gathered and raised hue and cry. Following criticism from the neighbors, the couple shifted the boy to the nearby hospital but the doctors declared his condition critical and said that there was little chance of his survival. The child later succumbed to his injuries.

“Yes, I was in anger when the child urinated and I threw him to wall,” a handcuffed Ghulam Abbas said.

His wife, Sumaira, was also present there. “I never had any idea that the child would lose his life. I thought he would survive but he did not,” the suspect said. The mother of the child – who is now co-accused in the case – was of the view that she was under pressure which was why she did not report the incident. “I have four children and he (the victim) was very dear to me like all others,” said Sumaira, pointing out that she was in horror and could not realize what had happened.
