The murder case of four-year-old girl Maryam, who was killed on July 12 in the Padang area of Charsadda, has been solved, Minute Mirror has learnt.

DPO Sohail Khalid said that earlier the police had arrested 36 people as suspects for interrogation but it took only 24 hours to solve the case. Police later arrested her father of Maryam on the charge of murder and recovered the murder weapon.

The killer of the four-year-old girl turned out to be none other than her father. The court remanded the accused to the police for three days.

According to investigators, the suspect was suspicious about the character of his wife and he doubted that Maryam was an illegitimate child of another man so he killed her. The sharp weapon used for the murder has been recovered.

According to authorities, a pistol was also recovered from the accused as he wanted to commit suicide. The accused confessed to his murder during interrogation.

According to police, on July 12, suspect Obaidullah Waleed told the police that his daughter Maryam Omar went out of the house to play sports but did not return after a long time. During the search, the dead body of the girl was found in the river Jundi, which was killed by an unknown assailant with a sharp instrument. Police launched an investigation from different angles, profiled 40 houses and interrogated 36 suspects.

The team also interrogated the father of the little girl. During the interrogation, the father confessed to the crime and said that he suspected that Maryam was his illegitimate child, so he slaughtered her and killed her.

Police say the accused slaughtered the girl with a sharp instrument and dumped her body on the banks of the river Jundi.
