Maryam Nawaz tests positive for COVID-19

After concluding the campaign for by-elections on Friday night, Vice President of PML-N Maryam Nawaz tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday.

She updated about her health in a tweet and said “Covid positive”. She also tested positive for Covid-19 in July and August last year. Party leaders and her followers sent best wishes to her on social media.

Meanwhile, after four and half months, Pakistan registered deaths due to COVID-19 in double-digit.

The data of the National Institute of Health (NIH) has shown that during the last 24 hours 10 deaths were reported with 737 new cases infected with the coronavirus.

According to the NIH data of July 16, the positivity ratio of coronavirus in the last 24 hours was 3.28 percent whereas 189 patients were in critical care in intensive care units (ICU) at different medical facilities in the country.

Earlier, 11 deaths due to the COVID-19 virus were reported in Pakistan on March 4.

World Health Organization (WHO) has already warned that the COVID-19 pandemic was nowhere near over. According to WHO, the new sub-variants of the Omicron variant namely BA.4 and BA.5 have been causing the spread of the virus.

According to medical experts, the sub-variants have also been causing infections among the already infected or vaccinated people; however, no evidence of any severe disease among the already vaccinated has been available.
