Massive explosions in Russia’s Belgorod and various regions of Ukraine

Loud explosions were heard in the Russian city of Belgorod (near the Ukrainian border) and various regions of Ukraine early this morning.

A witness reported hearing windows shaking loud bang, according to Reuters whereas, the cause of the explosions remains unknown.

According to i24 news, a series of blasts were also heard from Ukraine’s capital Kyiv this morning around 08:15 am local time.

The air alert sirens wailed for more than an hour before the detonations in Kyiv. Two more blasts were reported after the initial three.

As per the Ukrainian administration, the Russian missile fire reportedly caused the blasts. Furthermore, the administration reported bombardments in the cities of Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi, and the Lviv region throughout Ukraine.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said in a statement on Telegram that there were “several explosions in the Shevchenkiv district – in the center of the capital.”

As cited by witness Clouds of black smoke rose from buildings in the city center.

There were no instant reports of casualties or injuries, though initial video from incident places appeared to show cars combustion on city streets. Ambulances were also spotted heading in the direction of the explosions.

The attacks come a day after Moscow held Kyiv responsible for an explosion on a bridge linking Crimea to Russia.
