Massive fire erupts at oil depot in Nowshera

A massive fire erupted at Taru oil depot in Nowshera district on Saturday evening, Rescue 1122 authorities said, who are struggling to douse the blaze emitting severe black smoke darkening the sky in a vast area.

On realising the severity of the fire, the Rescue Nowshera centre also sought help from the Mardan and Charsadda districts, which sent their teams for taking part in extinguishing the fire.

According to rescue officials, the firefighters started their operation from different angles and managed to douse the inferno after nearly seven hours. Initial reports said about 150 oil tankers were parked in the Taru oil depot while several had been taken out of the premises. The blaze engulfed around 20 oil tankers, the Rescue 1122 statement added.
