May 9 serves as wak-up call to nation, says PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his strong condemnation of the individuals responsible for targeting martyrs’ monuments and symbols of the state on May 9. He stated that their actions not only attacked the idea and identity of Pakistan but also gave the country’s enemies a reason to rejoice.

In a tweet, he highlighted that the nation is currently observing Youm-i-Takreem Shuhada-i-Pakistan, a day dedicated to paying tribute to the country’s martyrs.

The prime minister went on to emphasize that he does not view the tragic incidents of May 9 as a mere protest that turned violent. Instead, he believes that there were sinister motives behind the planning of these events. He pointed out the clear buildup to the shameful incidents, which left the entire nation in disbelief and shock. He attributed these actions to the power-hungry desires of certain individuals.

The premier referred to the “tragic and heart-rending events” of May 9 as a wake-up call for the nation. He stressed the importance of identifying and exposing all those who seek to undermine the foundations of Pakistan. He further stated that May 9 has created a clear division between those who protect and build Pakistan and those who aim to weaken it.

Also, during his visit to the Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his concern over the delayed payment of wages to the employees for the months of April and May.

He assured the employees that their wages would be disbursed within the next 48 hours, emphasizing that his visit was not merely a symbolic gesture.

Furthermore, the prime minister highlighted the need for the nation to recognize that the culprits responsible for the attack were no different from terrorists. He expressed deep regret over the destruction of the historic building during the protests on May 9, particularly emphasizing the loss of valuable archives.

“The destruction of the archives is a tragic loss. Nations preserve their heritage with the utmost care, willing to sacrifice their lives to ensure that future generations can benefit from it. However, in this case, the archives were tragically burned down,” he lamented.
