Chief of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Sardar Akhtar Mengal faced severe criticism over his latest tweet regarding the issue of missing persons.
“Whoever is claiming that I am silent about the incidents of missing persons’ issue is only doing it for political gain. Absurd accusation,” the BNP chief tweeted while targeting a certain portion of political parties. He further wrote, “Not that I am answerable to them, but since many supporters are asking [I] have given PM time. If not delivered, then will decide accordingly.”
In response to his tweet, a Baloch activist, Amna Baloch, who was part of the protest and was imprisoned along with 28 other protesters, replied that their protest was continuing outside the Sindh Assembly when senior journalist Aziz Sanghur sent Mengal a voice note on Whatsapp, briefing him about what was happening there. She added that if Mengal had timely contacted Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah, this would not have happened. She suggested to him that regretting back then was waste of time.
In a confirmation tweet, Aziz Sanghur tweeted in reply to the BNP-M chief: “Mengal sahb, before the incident, I informed you to talk with Bilawal and Murad Ali Shah, but you were late. Police snatched Balochi Chaddar (shawl) from our mothers and sisters’ heads.”
