Message from Minar-i-Pakistan

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) gathering at Minar Pakistan sent a strong message to the establishment and the government that Imran Khan, the former prime minister, has no intention of backing down and that elections are the only viable way to end the unrest. The public, mostly from Lahore, flocked to the venue in droves despite Ramazan, the weather, and container issues, thus, the gathering was undoubtedly large. Imran Khan remembered all the oppressive measures the government had used against him and his party ever since his government was overthrown in April of last year throughout his speech. While many of the troubles he is experiencing are self-inflicted, some of his charges are supported by evidence. He challenged the powerful factions to come up with a plan to rescue the nation from the current problem since he believed the existing leaders lacked the skills and motivation to do it. He said that if the establishment responded, “We have a plan,” he would gladly stand away. It is obvious from the continued economic woes that the administration has no strategy whatsoever, and all eyes are on the IMF.

Imran Khan played on the economic field and mostly discussed the economy in his speeches, describing his strategy for improving the situation. Mr Khan stated that abroad Pakistanis will be encouraged to invest in Pakistan to attract foreign direct investments to avoid turning to the IMF over and time again in his 10-point plan, which he claimed will take Pakistan out of the economic crisis. We will make it easier for everyone who wants to export goods and bring money into the nation,” he continued. Imran Khan, the former prime minister, arrived at the location at 11:30 p.m. instead of the scheduled 9 p.m. start time because of road blockades. The energizing audience, which included families, waved PTI flags and danced to party music, gave him a warm welcome. The twice-postponed PTI public meeting continued early on Sunday.

Supporters previously arrived at the site after avoiding containers the municipal authorities had erected on the roads leading to Minar-i-Pakistan under the guise of security. PTI leaders alleged that in addition to the placement of containers inside the city, highways leading to the province capital were also blocked off in what looked to be an effort to prevent supporters from attending the protest. Yet in addition to PTI employees, Lahore locals also had a difficult time getting about the city because of these obstacles.

The crowd tells that obstacles cannot change public opinion.
