Miftah alleges Dar of violating IMF agreement

Former finance minister Miftah Ismail has said that he promised IMF that Pakistan will not make false statements yet Ishaq Dar was brought in and violated the IMF agreement.

Speaking in a dialogue titled ‘Pakistan in the Mid of Crisis’ at a private university in Karachi, former finance minister Miftah Ismail said, “There were rumors of giving subsidies to motorcycle riders in petrol, later there were rumors of giving subsidies to Suzuki and rickshaw pullers, I think this formula will not work, this is the worst strategy to run a country.”

Miftah Ismail added that when he was a minister, he went talked to the IMF about giving cheap petrol to the people by taking loans.

He said, “The IMF agreement has been violated three times, and now the IMF did not have the heart to give money, the IMF now has very little confidence in Pakistan, and now the IMF is talking about bringing investment from other countries first.”

The former finance minister said that if Pakistan defaults, it will be very dangerous for Pakistan, the elite will suffer, but there will be many problems for the poor people.
