Minor flood victim abducted, gang-raped

CM Murad orders arrest of culprits, protection of family

A flood-affected young girl was allegedly gang raped by two unidentified persons in Clifton.

The ten-year-old girl – residing in a flood relief camp was abducted from outside a shopping mall in Karachi’s Clifton Block 4. Later, she was found at the same place at 02:00pm. She was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) after her health deteriorated, where the doctors confirmed she was sexually assaulted by more than one person. The police, while quoting the victim, said that two identified persons abducted the minor girl and sexually assaulted her. The police surgeon office also confirmed that the girl was subjected to gang-rape. “A complete medical examination of the victim is being carried out,” the police surgeon said, adding that the girl was also infected with fungus due to floods.

Taking serious notice of the rape, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali has ordered the police to arrest the culprits and take the remaining family members of the girl into protective care. “This is totally unacceptable and cannot be forgiven and tolerated, therefore I want the culprits put behind the bars immediately,” he told the Additional IG Karachi on the telephone. The Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho told the chief minister that the 10-year-girl and her six younger brothers and sisters were living with her mother in the vicinity of the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi. Originally, the family belonged to the Shikarpur district and they had moved to Karachi after floods had displaced them.

On Sunday night, two boys at around 11 am forcibly took her in their car and raped her, and then left her in the same vicinity at around 2.30 pm. When her mother noticed her daughter’s plight, she rushed to JPMC where she was still under treatment. The matter came to the knowledge of the SSP South who registered an FIR at Boat Basin Police station and started an investigation into the matter, the CM was told.

The Additional IG Karachi has constituted a police party to arrest the culprits and bring them to book. The chief minister directed Additional IG Karachi to check the area’s CCTV footage, identify their vehicle, and persons, and arrest them. He also directed him to identify the culprits through DNA. Meanwhile, the chief Minister directed Minister Women Development Department Shahla Raza to take the entire family into protective care. The family has been kept at a women police station for their safety.
