Mirzas tilting back towards PPP

The mysterious silence of Mirzas on the alleged riggings and other malpractices and the subsequent massive mandate grabbed by PPP candidates in every part of the district added some weightage to the claims of the people that Mirzas would soon rejoin PPP to regain their influence

The possible move by Mirzas of Badin district to rejoin PPP has reportedly been preempted and blocked prematurely by some influential PPP leaders, including Arbab Lutufullah.

The speech made by the former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza in his stronghold Tando Bago town a few hours before the polls held for the second phase of LB phase in 16 districts of the province, had created many doubts, rumours and speculations among the people of the district. Dr ZA Mirza in his charged speech besides, using his traditional harsh language against the local PPP leaders, had hinted at joining hands with his once close friend and benefactor Asif Ali Zardari.

“I can join hands with Asif Zardari but I will never pardon the goons and corrupt elements who are calling the shots in Badin district,” he added. Those remarks made by Dr Mirza about the possible reconciliation few hours before LB polls and his subsequent strange silence on the day of polls despite the fact leaders of other parties including PTI and GDA raised their concerns and alleged that candidates of PPP were declared victorious due to alleged massive riggings, provided some credence to those claiming that Mirzas could patch up with Asif Ali Zardari before the upcoming general elections.

The mysterious silence of Mirzas on the alleged riggings and other malpractices and the subsequent massive mandate grabbed by PPP candidates in every part of the district added some weightage to the claims of the people, who took to the social media and started making comments that Mirzas would soon rejoin PPP to regain their influence in the district. The credible sources privy to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the strong party group of the party led by the Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh on Sports and PPP MPA from Tharparkar, Arbab Lutufullah reportedly played his active role along with other party lawmakers and leaders and managed foil yet another attempt by Mirzas in their desperate efforts to rejoin the party by gaining the sympathies of Asif Ali Zardari and his sister MPA Faryal Talpur.

Arbab Lutuf and other PPP leaders reportedly made clear to the top leadership of the party that there should be no room at all for the people like Mirzas, who according to them, had not only abused, humiliated and hurled the baseless accusations against the top brass of the party but also had brutally victimized the party leaders and workers when they had quit the party and joined Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA). He hoped that after their massive success in getting PPP candidates elected during the recently held polls, party leadership would award the ticket to his brother Arbab Ameer Amanullah to contest the elections on PS 72 Tando Bago against Barrister Hasnain Mirza.

When contacted Arbab Lutuf outright rejected the media reports and subsequent debate on the social that doors of PPP could again be opened for Dr Zulfikar Ali, Dr Fehmida Mirza and their children including sitting DGA MPA Barrister Hasnain Mirza. The GDA MNA Dr Fehmida Mirza when contacted by this reporter sent a brief message and rejected the reports being circulated both on some websites, TV channels and on the social media regarding their possible move. She, however, showed her anger and indignation when she was requested for her views on the comments made by her spouse on the possible the patch-up with Mr Zardari.

The influential Mirzas from Tando Thoro area of Hyderabad district before properly settling in Badin in early 1990s took part in the elections process and Dr Mirza became the MNA in 1993 by defeating late Mir Murtaza Bhutto be during the general elections and became the powerful MNA of the ruled the roost in Badin district for next  three decades. Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza, once most trusted friend of Asif Ali Zardari after developing the serious differences with his friend and close relative had resigned in 2011. But Dr Fehmida Mirza and her son remained party lawmaker until the general elections in 2018. Both had contested general elections on the tickets of GDA and defeated their rivals on NA 230 and PS 72 respectively. While Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza and his younger son Mohammad Hassam Mirza were defeated by Mohammad Ismail Rahu and Mir Ghulam Ali Khan Talpur on PS 74 and NA 229, respectively.
