American model Gigi Hadid and her friend were arrested and fined in the Cayman Islands earlier this month for possessing cannabis commonly known as Marijuana.
They were detained after their luggage was searched upon their arrival on a private jet for a vacation on July 10.
However, no conviction was recorded as they pleaded guilty in court and paid a fine.
Hadid’s representative stated that the marijuana was legally purchased in New York with a medical license, and it has been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017.
The Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control reported that the arrest was for the importation of marijuana and related utensils, but it was a small amount for personal consumption.
They were released on bail after being taken to a detention center and appeared in court two days later, where they were fined. Hadid seemed to still enjoy her holiday, as she shared photos of her beachside getaway on Instagram with the caption “All’s well that ends well”.
However, her fans were outraged over the news. They were concerned about the safety and well-being of Gigi’s daughter Khai.
