Moonis Elahi admits Spanish properties

Information obtained from Spanish authorities by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has revealed that on the day his father took oath as Chief Minister Punjab on July 27 last year, Chaudhry Moonis Elahi purchased several properties in Spain, along with a Range Rover and a company. According to a report by Umer Cheema, published in The News, the properties include three parking floors, a warehouse, and an apartment, which were purchased from Marc Canaleta Caupena for EUR 1,675,000. Moonis has admitted their ownership and said he will declare them in his next tax return, adding that it was merely a coincidence that the purchases coincided with his father’s oath-taking ceremony. In response to a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request from the NAB, Spanish authorities also provided information about a four-star hotel, Barcelo Raval, multiple apartments, buildings, fruit orchards, and a cab service, which may be linked to Moonis. The Spanish authorities have confirmed that Moonis has residence status in Spain as an investor.
