Moonis elahi tells PTI not to worry

Premier assures PML-Q leader Kalabagh Dam's construction necessary for Pakistan

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and Federal Water Resources Minister Moonis Elahi on Monday told Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) not to worry.

A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) delegation led by its president Shehbaz Sharif met with the PML-Q leadership in Lahore after a gap of 14 years as part of the efforts to seek support for the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Addressing an international symposium regarding hydro-power development, Elahi addressed the matter and said there was a strange political atmosphere around. He stated that politicians met people and maintained ties with each other. “People come to our house and we welcome them,” he said.

He assured PM Khan, who was also present at the ceremony, that they had ties with PTI as well and they would maintain them. “I urge Imran khan to tell his members once and for all that they do not need to worry,” he said.

In reply to Elahi, PM Khan said that he fully trusted the Chaudhry brothers.

As a minister for water resources, he asked PM Khan about Kalabagh Dam to which the premier assured him that the dam was necessary for Pakistan as the country needed storage desperately. However, the government needed to persuade the people of Sindh first to tell them that that this project would be beneficial for them as well.

Later on Elahi tweeted that construction of Kalabagh dam was inevitable.

“Due to siltation of existing dams, Kalabagh Dam will be completed in the shortest possible time,” he tweeted.

He was optimistic to take everyone onboard on this matter and vowed to present the proposal of Kalabagh Dam in the cabinet soon in his twitter statement.
