‘MPA Jalil Sharaqpuri received cash for resigning’: Sheikh Rashid ‘jokes’ in audio leak

An audio has come to light in which former interior minister Sheikh Rashid is saying that Jalil Sharaqpuri, a member of provincial assembly who resigned on Saturday in favor of Pervez Elahi, had received cash.

According to the leaked call recording, Jalil Sharaqpuri quit after being bribed and receiving a sizable payoff. Sheikh Rashid has admitted that this was his audio leak, but he was joking in it.

On Saturday night, the PML-N lawmaker met with PTI leaders and announced his resignation from the Punjab Assembly, dealing another blow to the provincial administration.

There are now three parliamentarians removed from office in the past two days, with this MPA’s resignation being the second to be submitted in as many days.

Marriyum Aurangzeb talked to media and said that full inquiry would be conducted on this issue and that PTI did not want to contest fair elections.

Meanwhile, speaking to Minute Mirror, Jalil Sharaqpuri said that Sheikh Rashid was a ‘liar’ and he was getting pressure from “Hamza Shehbaz and other institutions” to not resign.

He said that he was ready to swear by the holy book that he had not taken any money and he was not in support of the ideology of PML-N. He also said that Maryam was a liar and he could not support such people.
