Murder FIR registered against PPP leader

An FIR was registered on Friday against a PPP leader, Mithi SHO and others on the charges of the killing of a man in police custody on the directions of the in-charge SSP.

The FIR was registered against the PPP leader from Tharparkar Samtra Manjani, Mithi SHO Mohammad Soomar Mangrio and three others on the complaint of Jay Ram Meghwar, the uncle of the victim. The FIR of the alleged murder of Bhag Chand, 27, was registered after in-charge SSP from Umerkot district Mukhtiar Ahmmed Khaskheli reached the venue.

Bhag Chand was reportedly arrested by police a few days back on the alleged charges of theft and was found dead in lock-ups of Mithi police station on Friday. After hearing about the death of Bhag Chand, his relatives gathered outside the police station and staged a demonstration for several hours demanding the registration of FIR against the PPP leader and police officials involved. They alleged that police arrested the victim on the behest of PPP leader Manjani and tortured him to death. The body of the victim was brought to a local hospital in Mithi for post-mortem where doctors in their initial reports confirmed torture marks on different parts of his body. Meanwhile, in a statement, Samtra Manaji rejected the allegations of Bhag Chand’s relatives.
