Murtaza Wahab resigns as administrator Karachi

PPP leader resigns after SHC restricts KMC from collecting taxes through K-electric

Murtaza Wahab has announced his resignation from office of the administrator of Karachi.

The announcement to quit came on the heels of SHC’s decision to temporarily bar the KMC from collecting municipal taxes through electricity bills.

Addressing a press conference, a dismayed Wahab lamented the court decision. He said, “It would have been easier for me to ask the prime minister and the chief minister for funds, but I did not.”

He said that the tax was to be collected for the betterment of Karachi and Karachi-ites, further adding that KMC was about to stand on its feet.

Murtaza Wahab also said that the collected tax money was not going to go into his accounts rather it was for the development plans of Karachi.

PPP leader further stated that although he had convinced K-electric with difficulty over tax collection, yet faced political criticism. He also said that Mustafa Kamal and Wasim Akhtar used to collect tax in between Rs200 to Rs5,000 but he provided the people of Karachi with relief by cutting it down to Rs50-Rs200.

He said that some politicians did not want that the metropolitan city to become economically sustainable. He also said that the court had not raised any objection over collection of taxes but barred from doing so through K-electric.
