The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Saturday fielded Lahore President Chaudhary Aslam Gill to contest by-elections in NA-133, Lahore.
PPP Central Punjab President Raja Pervaiz Ashraf made the announcement in a video message released by the party’s media wing.
The decision to field Gill was made on the directions of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairman former president Asif Ali Zardari.
The seat of NA-133 fell vacant after the demise of PML-N leader Muhammad Pervaiz Malik.
“With the permission of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, we have decided to field Chaudhary Muhammad Aslam Gill as a candidate to contest by-elections in NA-133,” said Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
PPP members Syed Hassan Murtaza, Shahzad Saeed Cheema and Chaudhary Aslam Gill were also present in the video.
“PPP will run an effective campaign to make Chaudhary Gill successful in NA-133,” he further said. Ashraf added that this election would be against sky-rocketing inflation, unemployment and poor law and order situation.
“I strongly believe that people will keep in mind that PPP is the only party that is raising its voice for them,” he added.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that he was hopeful that Chaudhary Aslam Gill would be successful in the by-elections.
Gill became president of PPP Lahore for the third time and also served the party in Punjab as senior vice president. In the past, he was also given the ticket for Senate elections and performed well, but remained unelected.
Gill, however, never became member of the National Assembly or the provincial assembly since the day he entered into politics.
As the name of Chaudhary Aslam Gill surfaced as a candidate to contest by-elections in NA-133, congratulations poured in for him from PPP supporters.
The members of the PPP Youth Wing, including Mohsin Malhi, Yasir Bara, Shehryar, Shahid Nazir, Sadaqat Sherwani and many others congratulated him for being nominated to contest the upcoming by-elections.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary Aslam Gill addressed the gathering held in connection with the anniversary of Begum Nusrat Bhutto at PPP Punjab Secretariat in Model Town. He said PPP always fought for the supremacy of law in the country.
He added that he was subjected to violence during Zia’s era and the party was determined to continue the struggle for supremacy of the constitution and for public’s rights.
