NA approves Islamabad Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2022

Election of Mayor, Deputy Mayor will be held directly and same vote will be cast for both posts

The National Assembly has passed the Islamabad Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2022 with a majority vote.

According to the amendment bill the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held directly and the same vote will be cast for both posts.

The amendment bill has stated that if the seat of Mayor, Deputy Mayor was vacant there will be re-election. Voting for Mayor, Deputy Mayor will be held on the day of the elections of the Union Council.

Under the bill, the number of Union Council of Islamabad will be 125.

On the other hand, a bill to further amend the Islamabad Local Government Act 2015 was introduced in the National Assembly.

Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali opposed the bill. He said that the bill has been introduced now that polling was to be held after eight days.
