Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the headquarters of Boeing in Washington and held a high-level meeting with the company’s president to discuss the possible purchase of new aircraft for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

During the meeting, both sides reviewed options for acquiring 16 new aircraft to modernize and expand the national carrier’s fleet. They discussed different procurement proposals and agreed to move forward with efforts to finalize the most suitable deal as early as possible.

The proposed acquisition is part of broader efforts aimed at strengthening PIA’s operations, improving service quality and enhancing the airline’s capacity to meet growing passenger demand. Expanding the fleet is also expected to improve operational efficiency and support the airline’s long-term restructuring plans.

Mohsin Naqvi praised Boeing for its significant contribution to the global aviation industry and acknowledged the company’s reputation as one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers. He thanked Boeing President Brendan Nelson for assuring full cooperation in facilitating the aircraft acquisition process.

The minister expressed confidence that closer cooperation between Pakistan and Boeing would help accelerate the procurement process and support the government’s efforts to modernize the national airline. He said acquiring new aircraft would contribute to improving PIA’s performance and strengthening its competitiveness in international aviation.

Officials from Boeing and the Pakistani delegation also exchanged views on future cooperation in the aviation sector. Both sides agreed to continue discussions to ensure the proposed agreement is completed at the earliest opportunity.

A delegation representing the new management of a private airline company was also present during the meeting. However, no financial details, aircraft models or delivery timeline were disclosed following the discussions.
