Pakistan is observing the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Karnal Sher Khan today, honouring one of the country’s most distinguished military heroes for his exceptional courage during the Kargil conflict.

Captain Karnal Sher Khan embraced martyrdom on July 5, 1999, while leading his troops against enemy forces on the Kargil front. Despite intense fighting, he continued to defend his position with remarkable bravery and determination until he made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

In recognition of his extraordinary gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military award for valour. His courage, leadership and devotion to the nation have earned him a lasting place in the country’s military history.

A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at his mausoleum to pay tribute to the national hero. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army will present a guard of honour, while prayers will be offered for the elevation of his ranks.

Tributes are being paid across the country by government officials, military leaders and citizens, who are remembering Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s sacrifice and unwavering commitment to defending Pakistan. His bravery continues to inspire members of the armed forces and future generations to serve the country with courage, dedication and patriotism.
