Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry has announced to file a contempt of court complaint against the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Following Aurangzeb’s remarks regarding an election delay case being reviewed by the Supreme Court pursuant to Article 184(3) of the Constitution, Chaudhry made his statement. The information minister had called the Supreme Court registrar’s letter a “decision of one person” and questioned its legitimacy in her comments.

Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), was also criticized by Fawad for threatening the country’s courts and casting doubt on an impending decision by a three-member panel.

After a meeting of the party’s core committee on Friday, the PTI official briefed the media and claimed that Nawaz Sharif was “browbeating and threatening the judiciary of Pakistan.”

He criticized Nawaz Sharif for questioning the reliability and legality of the three-member bench’s forthcoming decision.

At a news conference on Friday in London, Sharif noted that two of the judges on the panel had earlier ruled against him. He had questioned how a decision rendered by this court could be upheld given his disapproval of the bench as a whole.

In response to Nawaz Sharif’s rejection of a ruling by three Supreme Court justices, Fawad urged the PML-N leader to reject the ruling by the same three justices, which served as the basis for the Shehbaz Sharif administration.

Fawad Chaudhry said that his party supported and believed in bargaining with other political groups. He insisted, though, that it requires two to applaud.

If the condition in Pakistan is to be corrected, Fawad continued, “We will have to think beyond victimization.” He added that Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan was not a problem for his party.

He claimed that a recent change aims to limit the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s authority. The Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023, which the Senate passed on March 30 to restrict the chief justice of Pakistan’s discretionary powers to take suo motu notice, was mentioned by the PTI official.

According to the PTI leader, the caretaker administration’s authority will terminate at the end of April 30.
